The Network Kit

The Network Kit is a collection of global C functions that implement the 4.2BSD network/socket protocol. The functions let you communicate with other computers through the TCP and UDP protocols. Note that some BSD-defined functions are not implemented.

There are two sections to this chapter:

"Network Sockets" describes how to create a socket onto the network, and how to send and receive data.
"Network Names, Addresses, and Services" describes the functions you use to look up other machine names and addresses and user account information.
