How to install on to a system using an Adaptec 7890/7896 SCSI controller using the R4.5 CD and R4.5.2 update and boot floppy. 1. get the 4.5.2-boot.img file from the ftp site: ftp://ftp.be.com/pub/beos_updates/r4.5/R4.5.2-boot.img 2. get the image on to a floppy disk - dd if=4.5.2-boot.img of=/dev/disk/floppy/raw bs=10240 (on BeOS) - dd if=4.5.2-boot.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=10240 (on Linux) - rawrite (on DOS) (download the rawrite utility from: ftp://cdrom.com/pub/linux/slackware/install/) 3. boot the 4.5 CD using the floppy disk (make sure your machine doesn't boot the CD, skipping the floppy (since the CD itself is bootable)) 4. Install 4.5 (it can see the 789x due to the drivers on the floppy) 5. Boot the installed 4.5 using the floppy (be sure to remove the CD) 6. Install the 4.5.2 update. 7. Enjoy Ultra2Wide SCSI.
